The analysis of technical requirements for machining process of the hollow piston rod

From the perspective of application, because the hollow piston rod will be affected by the alternating load, and its sealing device will be repeatedly affected by friction. Therefore, in the selection of its material, it is required to have higher hardness and wear resistance.

After the selection of the suitable material, in order to further improve the performance of the hollow piston rod, part of the material also needs to be specialized in thermal refining and surface carburization. Generally, the core hardness standard is 23 to 32HRC, the depth of the surface nitriding layer should be in the range of 0.2 to 0.3mm and the hardness of the surface should reach 62 to 65HRC.

In general, the hollow piston rod is required to have good wear resistance, at the same time with the appropriate ductility. Because of its simple structure and poor rigidity, in order to ensure the machining accuracy, in the turning process, the rough and fine turn need to be carried out step by step.


And in the actual processing, due to some factors, such as the role of the workpiece, its cutting tool will have certain deformation, which will inevitably affect the hollow piston rod machining accuracy. Therefore, the appropriate amount of grinding should be selected and the grinding depth should be smaller.

In the grinding process, when dealing with the outer circle and taper of the hollow piston rod, it is important to separate the two different links. Usually, when grinding 1: 20 taper, the test piece should be ground first, and then the workpiece can be formally started grinding after the acceptance of the test piece. It should be noted that when checking its taper, the standard 1: 20 ring gauge should be used for smear test, and the contact surface must be not less than 80 %.

Finally, if you want to get the desired machining accuracy standard, then in the entire machining process of the hollow piston rod, there can’t be artificial straightening. Otherwise, it may affect the stability of the hollow piston rod machining accuracy.
