In the process of manufacturing hollow rod, one of the key problems is the selection of the blank pieces.In actual work, the first step is to ensure that the shape of the selected blank pieces should be close to the finished parts of the hollow rod.This will not only help reduce the amount of machining, but also save the material and prolong the service life of the cutter.

It is important to note that the structure of the hollow rod is mainly determined by the method of making the blank.Because of this, we must choose the method of making blanks in combination with the production scale and production conditions.When determining the type of blank, we usually choose NO.45 steel.This is because after nitriding and the surface conditioning treatment ,the material has high core strength, excellent wear resistance and good fatigue resistance, both the deformation in the process of heat treatment is very small .

Combined with the use requirement of hollow rod, also the alternating load what needs to bear in the actual work,we should ensure the proper tensile and compressive strength and stiffness .So it used to process by the forging, which can help improve its mechanical properties.

Then, the size and tolerance should be determined according to the production requirements.For example, a hollow rod needs to be formed by turning first.Cause by the high precision, and the surface roughness value is smaller, it should be grinding after turning.Remember, during the process of turning and grinding, the center hole of both ends should be used as the precise benchmark.The center hole can be processed before the rough turning.
